Usage of social networks, interesting study: 2008 Digital Entertainment Survey

Interesting study for the UK market where you can find up-date information about the usages in the social networks.
The survey questioned (1,600 UK consumers) the behaviour, trends, preferences and attitudes of respondents to all forms digital entertainment across the board; how consumers want to access digital services, using which devices, and perhaps most importantly, how much are they willing to pay?
A topic exemple:
Usage of social networks and communities is now mainstream with an average of 1 in 2 at least occasionally using them.
Usage does remain highly correlated with age but even 1 in 8, 45-54 year olds regularly use them.
Among teenagers, over half of males and two thirds offe males use socialnetworks regularly.
As we have seen, for teenagers they take up a great deal of their available leisure time and they are having a serious impact on the consumption of other activities and media, particularly traditional media.
Socialnetworks aren't a passing fad: the emotional attachment and likely future usage are also very strong with a net 1 in 6 saying they are going to use them more.

What do you think we can do for the travel market and travel usages in social networks?

I would like to see one of the major hotel brands employ social networking in their loyalty programme. If developed properly and well-marketed, it could open up a whole new dialogue between the brand and it’s customers as well as create more value n the loyalty programme’s proposition.

Kevin,
Thanks for this vision.
ACCOR is trying to do something with their Suite Hotel brand and their own travel social network “NomadSphere”
http://www.nomadsphere.com
I think they have some difficulty to expand this stuff !!!
Maybe we will see some hotel brands initiative as the smart move done by Sabre with Cubeless platform.
