Tango Diva : Women & Travel & Life & Fun

Tango Diva, can you tell us the story and some information about you?
Once upon a time, a girl who hated her job in advertising was in a plane that lost an engine. She was flying above the Andes in Peru when this life-changing event happened and decided life was too short to be dreading the daily grind. She promised herself that if she landed and lived she would use her talents to help women. Her talents happen to be writing and traveling. And she loved sharing her travel insights with her friends. She would inspire her friends to travel alone and they all said, "You should do this for a living, you are so good at it!" So, she quit her job, started writing a book on solo travel, and built a website for women who want to travel alone. That is my story and Tango Diva had be in business since 2003.
I believe that through travel, we gain a clearer vision of what it means to be a positive participant in this ever-shrinking world. Tango Diva's mission is to equip women with tools that give them the confidence to travel alone. And once they experience the success of flying solo, then they can apply their newfound verve for adventure to their day-to-day lives. We become better people when we learn about the world and ourselves.
Tango Diva gives women their wings through sharing insight, direction, and inspiration so that they can become active, knowledgeable participants in life.
Next year, my book FLY SOLO: The Best 50 places on Earth for a Girl to Travel Alone. Will be in bookstores. And yes, France is in there!
Tango Diva is a « passion business » ? a dream com truth ? and what mean Tango Diva name ?Tango Diva is a passion business with its roots deeply planted in strategy. When we are not jet setting around the globe writing about our experiences, we are working with travel companies. We help build marketing strategies base on the market research we glean from our website. Our insights help hotels and airlines talk to women more effectively. In the USA, women book 80% of all travel. That is a lot of money, and companies really need to know what she wants and needs. Our job is to help these companies understand how to communicate with women effectively.
The name Tango Diva:
I learned how to fly planes and I loved the phonetic alphabet - ALPHA, BRAVA, CHARLIE, etc. TANGO is for the letter T (T for Travel and T for Teresa). Diva is Latin for goddess. So, you have Travel Goddess!
tan•go, pronunciation: 'ta[ng]=(")gO
Date: 1952
A communications code word for the letter t, usually used by aviation.
T as in Travel
di•va, pronunciation: 'dE-v&
Date: 1883
Italian, literally, goddess, from Latin, feminine of divus divine, god, deity.
Women are divine goddesses
Some american women created cool, great and very special travel web site.
I think about Women & Wine , France Monthly and Paris by Design .
We don't have that in France, except Trouvotoo Voyages founded by Esther , do you think american women have a more business spirit ?
Good question! I don't think it is about "business spirit," I think it is because American women need more information than European women do before they will travel. I find that the women in Europe can easily get up and travel to other places without much thought, but American women need lots of details and data before they will go anywhere, especially across the Atlantic Ocean. As Americans women we know that, so we build businesses to support our fellow travelers!
For Travel, do you think Men are very different than women?
In the United States, yes! Men can easily go anywhere and feel safe and comfortable. But with women, it is all about feeling safe and going places that are safe, and doing things that are safe. Fear drives many women, not men. It is very unfortunate.
What your are your taste for :Travel:
I like being comfortable when I travel. So, flying economy on some airlines is okay because the staff is friendly and the seats are big enough to rest in them. But for long flights, I prefer to sit in business or first. When it comes to trains across Europe, I tend to spend a bit extra to sit in first class. I don't like dealing with noisy backpackers when I travel. But, if the only way I can get to a desired destination is on a mule, then I will do it.
Travel destination: Iceland! It is a beautifully stark country with amazing landscape and some of the friendliest people I have met in the world. I like visiting places where the people love to share their culture and enjoy entertaining travelers. Brazil is great, and I adore Australia.
Business: I am very subjective. I like what I like and I let people know. If I stay at a hotel or resort that is under par, I will let my readers know that. I don't want them to waste their time or money on a place that did not treat me well, because chances are they will not treat others any differently. And if I stay somewhere extraordinary, then I will let the world know. Service is number one in travel.
Ecotourism seem a trend in tourism industry and we see some great initiative like EcoMilles or other Tour Operator who have specialized their products.
What about Tango Diva ? What do you think about this trend ? Do you think women have an other view on this trend ?
At last! The travel world is learning that it's not just about visiting a gorgeous place and leaving, it is about giving back and preserving the beauty of a destination. Women, in general, are protectors and we want to save and preserve as much as we can. But in the past there was no clear outlet to support this important initiative.
Now ecotourism allows women to be involved in that trend. Even simple signs in bathrooms that say, "We are trying to save water, please use your towel again" works wonders. The more we can do, the better.
We are big supporters of tour companies and destinations that promote ecotourism. We have one world and we need to care for it.
Do you plan to extend your Tango Diva destinations? What about France destination?
We are always creating new trip ideas with a focus on learning and meeting great women from around the world. Right now we are working on creating a trip where our members stay in a château outside of Paris and learn to cook. We are thinking about bringing a yoga instructor and a life coach too. I will let you know when we have finalized the details.
What about membership, it's only and exclusive for women ? I hope not ;-)
We have men involved too. We joke and call them Tango Divo members! When we host events or tours, men are invited to join us. We love men!!!
Do you have international members?
Oh yes! We have women in every continent. Some of our most active member live in places like Sri Lanka, South Africa, and Australia!
Our goal is the build the largest network of women travelers in the world, so when a member goes to, say Paris, she can connect with Parisian members and meet for a coffee or cocktails. And when that French member visits San Francisco (or where ever) she can connect with other Tango Diva members as well. When I went to Paris a few months ago, a Tango Diva member from Hamburg flew in and met me. We spent a few days playing in Paris together, it was wonderful!
